Writhlington School Equestrian Team
In 2014 Writhlington became one of a growing number of state schools to become a member of the National Schools Equestrian Association (NSEA). The aim of NSEA is to promote and encourage the participation in equestrian sport within schools across Great Britain. It gives school children access to competitions and the opportunity to become more involved in the any extracurricular activities NSEA offers. We are very fortunate to have some exceptionally talented horse riders who are also members of local pony clubs and Bath Riding Club.
This year, in conjunction with The Pony Club, British Showjumping have joined forces with schools across the country to launch a National Schools Team and Individual Championship series. Show venues have already started committing themselves to the Championships with all regions having booked ‘British Showjumping – just for schools’ show dates in their competition calendar. This exciting new Championships will allow for schools to submit teams of three or four riders and individuals within a specific height category of either 70cm, 80cm, 90cm, 1.00m or 1.10m. Each competition will generate points for the teams and individuals that go towards the National Schools League for each height.
For those students who do not own their own ponies we work with Brookover Equestrian Centre, Orchardleigh, which is owned by Heather Collingwood. She is a very experienced and talented horse riding instructor and we will be offering extra curricular activities, which will involved blocks of lessons and horse management, providing students with the opportunity to get hands on experience as well as riding.
Parents are encouraged to take an active part in the organisation of the team and arranging extra curricular activities.
Our Facebook page is regularly updated with student achievements, not only school events but anything equestrian related and even if students do not wish to participate in competition we encourage them to join in in other equestrian related activities.
