Our Shigeru Kawai Grand Piano

October 6th, 2021 | School News

Writhlington School has acquired a new piano, and not just any piano. Our new piano is a Shigeru Kawai Grand Piano, a hand built piano that is designed to be one of the most elegant and eloquent pianos in the world.

Shigeru Kawai was the heir to the Japanese Kawai Company, that made pianos of all different kinds that were sold all over the world. But Shigeru’s ambition was to build the best pianos in the world – you can read the story here.

We have arranged for a number of international artists to come to the school to play our piano over the school year, and you will be able to read about that soon and come to the concerts with your friends and family for free.

In the meantime, remember that our Shigeru Kawai belongs to our school community, to each and every one of us, and we are all individually and collectively responsible for its care. It is up to all of us to make sure that it looks as beautiful and sounds as good as it does today.

We hope that many of you will learn to play our piano and that we will get the chance to hear you all.
