Orchids Growing in Writhlington School’s Car Park

June 23rd, 2021 | Orchid Project School News
The students of Writhlington School and Mendip Studio school are famous for exploring the remote tropical forests of the¬†world in search of orchids but such trips are on hold during the pandemic. Fortunately, students at the schools have found wild orchids growing nearer to home in the school car park. These lovely plants are Common Spotted Orchids (Dactalorrhiza fuchsii) and were found by year 8 and 9 students Kate and Lily between the teachers’ cars. Let’s hope that we will soon be able to travel again so that Kate and Lily can look for orchids in forests of Rwanda and Sarawak, although there are orchids in car parks there too.
