Year 7 and 8 MNSP Maths Team Challenge

July 12th, 2019 | School News

Last week, twelve year 7 students and four year 8 students travelled to Norton Hill School to take part in the Midsomer Norton Partnership Maths Team Challenge, competing with teams from Norton Hill and Somervale over a series of tough mathematical challenges.

There was a “guess the function” round, a 2 minute mental arithmetic speed challenge and a mathematical relay, all of which require sharp mathematical thinking, coupled with high level problem solving skills and the ability to work in a team.

On Monday, the 3 year 7 teams of 4 competed hard ,and finished 2nd, 3rd and 9th out of 10, the winning team being Exmoor House from Norton Hill.

Team A: Jack D, Morgan R, Hugo J, Elliot S

Team B: Jack M, Suzy P, Shay C, Daisy T

Team C: Zehra S, Eden C, Frankie M, Freya D

On Friday, despite having to miss the track events at Sports Day, the Writhlington team consisting of Woody T, Rosie P, Frank W and Matthew B beat the other 7 teams to win by a comfortable 15 points, and bring back the trophy to Writhlington for the first time!

Well done to all involved, and thanks to Mrs Lambell for travelling with the Year 8 team.
