When Writhlington School faced Court Fields in the last 16 of the football County Cup, it turned out to be a fixture that will be remembered by all involved!

Writhlington went 1-0 down after conceding from a corner mid-way through the first half. After a positive run into the box, Alfie T was fouled and awarded a penalty which he calmly dispatched. 1-1, game on. During the second half, Toby R linked well with Alfie T down the right, and Billy linked well with Felix down the left. Alex and Alfie R bossed the centre of midfield, winning aerial duels, 50/50 tackles and linking up play with confidence. It was against the run of play that we found ourselves 2-1 down, then after a defensive mix up, we were 3-1 down. This is when our character and determination was shown. Two substitutions welcomed Ollie and Cam (first game for the squad) onto the field, and both of them turned out to be super-subs. A whipped ball in from the right was met by Ollie who scored a glancing header. 3-2, game on again, 2 minutes to go. We pushed and pushed. Alex moved up front and unsettled their defenders. We lumped a long ball forwards, searching for the equaliser, it was headed away towards the feet of Cam. He struck the ball, first time and it flew into the top left corner. What a goal. The full time whistle went. 3-3. After extra time (5 minutes each way), it remained 3-3.

Penalty shoot outs would decide which team made it to the quarterfinals. Courtfield scored, Harvey scored. Courtfields scored, Felix scored. Courtfields missed, Jack P scored. Courtfields scored, Jack R scored. Courtfields needed to score to stay in the shoot-out but the feet of Callum denied them!

Writhlington School march on to the quarterfinals! 3-3 after full time. 4-3 win on penalties!
