A Level Exam Results 2018 – Writhlington and Mendip Sixth Form

Writhlington and Mendip Studio School Sixth Form students are celebrating another excellent set of A Level results. Not only are our students going to the best universities in the country but we also have students taking up degree level apprenticeships with national and international companies.

Many of our students have some truly outstanding results; Abigail Meadows attained a phenomenal A*A*A* and is going to University of Nottingham to read Physics; Sammy Hanley attained A*AA and will be studying Medicine, Toby Day achieved A*AA and will be reading Maths at University of Exeter, Sian Beresford achieved A*AB and will study Geography at University of Cardiff, Luke Reddington achieved AAA and will study Medicine St George’s in London and Amy Luscombe achieved AAA and will read Geography at University of Edinburgh.

Students have successfully obtained places at prestigious universities including Edinburgh, London School of Economics, Imperial College London, King’s College London, Exeter, Cardiff, The Royal Veterinary College London, Manchester, Southampton, Bath, Bristol, and Nottingham. Students will be studying subjects including Medicine, Engineering, Law, Veterinary Science, Biological Sciences, Maths, Geography, History, Psychology, Computer Science, Economics and many others.

We would also like to thank a number of students, including Head Girl, Amy Luscombe, Head Boy, George Mills and Prefects Darcey Dufosee, Freddie Pascoe and Lauren Oatway who, as well as achieving a brilliant set of results, have contributed so much to the wider life of the school in terms of extra-curricular participation and leadership.    

Caroline Taggart, Deputy Head of Sixth Form and Natasha Fear, Pastoral Leader of Mendip Studio School said “Not only have we seen some amazing results this year we are also so proud of how our Year 13 students have embraced all of the opportunities that Writhlington and Mendip have to offer. The results are well deserved and the students will be missed”.

George Mills, student, said:
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Writhlington. I am overjoyed with my results and am looking forward to taking my place at King’s College, London. During my time at Sixth Form I made friends for life and have so many wonderful memories. All I can say is thank you to the staff for helping me succeed.”

Sian Beresford, student said:
“I’m feeling absolutely over the moon with my results and the hard work has been all worthwhile with the support from my teachers throughout. My teachers have inspired me to continue my studies with a renewed passion and I can’t wait to start this next chapter at University of Cardiff!”

Amy Luscombe, student said:
I am so pleased with my results and can’t wait to go to Edinburgh to study Geography.  Writhlington has given me so many opportunities to do amazing things: Three Peaks, Gold DofE, Ten Tors 55 Mile, CCF and Head Girl and to top it off I have walked away with 3 As. I couldn’t have done it without the support from my teachers and family and am so glad that I chose Writhlington for Sixth Form.”

Freddie Pascoe, student said:
“I am so pleased I was able to make my hard work pay off. I’m thankful for the support of Writhlington staff and the challenge that my teachers gave me each lesson, I have really thrived in Writhlington Sixth Form.  I am looking forward to starting university in London and the new challenges that lie ahead.”

In a period of change and challenge within the exam system, I could not be more happy and proud of how our students have done. They have been a fantastic year group, who have added a great deal to the school, they are a credit to themselves and their parents.  I wish them all the best for the future and look forward to hearing what they get up to as they move onto new adventures”.
