Chance to Shine Cricket Finals

June 26th, 2017 | School News

Writhlington travelled to Wells for the opening round of  the Chance to Shine Cricket tournament to play against St Gregory’s and Wells Blue School.

Writhlington lost the toss in their first game against St Gregory’s and were put in to bat. Emma Guy and Molly Pascoe opened the innings and after only two overs had accumulated 25 runs with both players striking  4s and 6s. Fleur Neilson joined the big hitters after Emma retired on maximum runs and assisted by Lucy Twigger in the final overs managed to take the score to 82 off their allocated seven overs.

Requiring 83 to win St Gregory’s made a valiant effort to hit the target but tight bowling and fielding by the Writhlington girls held them to 58 runs.

Against Wells Blue Writhlington won the toss and elected to field first and were given a solid total to achieve as Wells accumulated a total of 84 . The team got off to a slow start but then found their confidence to begin hitting out again to steadily build their score. Once more Molly , Emma and Fleur made great contributions, a late flurry of wickets fell as Writhlington tried to push on to the total but eventually Writhlington ran out winners with ten balls to spare.  The team now progress to the North Play Off on June 15th.

Special mention must be made to Year 8 student Courtney Powell who travelled as team reserve and sportingly offered to play for Wells Blue who were a player short – well done and thank you!
