Year 7 student, Charlie Bamford has made it through to the semi-finals of the Young Chef of the Year Competition to be held at Bath College on Wednesday 28 June.
The competition, invites contestants aged 11 to 16 to submit their recipe (including full method) for a main course dish to serve two people and those selected will be given one and a half hours to prepare and serve their dish.
So far contestants have been challenged to demonstrate their refined cookery skill and creativity in cooking, as well as a knowledge of produce from south west England.
‘ I first got into cooking after watching Masterchef, it really inspired me to be creative with cooking. I have been practicing my recipes at home, cooking for my family and things. I can’t wait for the competition and I hope it opens doors for me’
Teacher of Food Technology, Chris Long said:
‘I am really proud of Charlie getting this far, he has managed to beat students much older than him from across the county already. The opportunity for him to have feedback on his dishes from Michelin star chefs will be invaluable and will help inspire him to continue improving his skills’
The winners of the six county competitions will meet at the South West final on Saturday 14th October at Ashburton Cookery School, Devon.
