Writhlington Year 8 rugby team came up against Wellsway in their opening fixture of the season. Writhlington were off to a strong start with Connor Schmid charging across the try line giving Writhlington a 5 – 0 lead. Still playing strong, Connor Schmid shortly followed it with another try and a brilliant effort from Tom Ellis Ricketts saw Writhlington power through with a 15-0 lead after just 10 minutes.
The remainder of the first half saw more great rucking and handling with the blues adding two tries from Ben Smith and Connor Schmid (his hat-trick). After a fantastic first half display, the boys went into the second half full of confidence. This showed as another great try from Ben Smith came soon after the interval. Dylon Inker then added to the score and some great tackling at the other end prevented Wellsway from crossing the line. Yet again, some brilliant handling work saw Lewis Young on one wing score and almost instantly Tom Ellis Ricketts on the other.
All in all, a fantastic team effort with a brilliant scoreline to go with it. A good start to the season with more results hopefully like this one. Final score Writhlington 50 – Wellsway 0. Report By Team Captain, William Lacey
