Year 7 and 9 students, Tom Ellis Ricketts, Tom Markey and Billy Brudenell tackled the frosty conditions at Kingswood School in Bath to represent Writhlington and B&NES during the Avon Schools Cross Country Championships on Saturday 16th January.

In the Intermediate Boys Race, Billy ran in a highly experienced field of runners who went out hard from the gun. He was in contention for the first three laps of the five lap course running with extreme determination but faded towards the end of the last lap finishing in an extremely respectable 19th position with a time of 16 minutes 57 seconds.

In the Minor Boys Race, a gutsy run from both Tom Ellis Ricketts and Tom Markey saw them both hang on to the lead pack for the duration of the race. As they reached the final 400m of the course, Tom Ellis Ricketts kicked on, showing a great turn of pace and he stormed home in 7th position finishing in a time of 12 minutes:20 seconds. Tom Markey battled hard through both a stitch and cramp to cross the finish line in 10th position in a time of 12 minutes:38 seconds.. A fantastic, courageous run from both Year 7 boys which has earned them selection to represent Avon Schools for the South West Schools Cross Country Championships in February.
