Whilst England have been struggling through their matches at the Rugby World Cup, Writhlington student and member of Somerset Rugby’s Junior Development Programme, Gene Norris, has excelled beating touring Australian team, the Sydney Cavaliers, who had previously held an untarnished record.

Gene, who already already boasts a very promising sporting career, trains once a week with the Bath Rugby Academy Squad Development Programme and twice a week with Bath University working on agility.

Year 10 student, Gene said

‘ It was a really hard fought match but an invaluable experience. The team were not only unbeaten but are the best in their country. This is their first overseas tour and it was a real privilege to be selected to play against them. I really hope we get to to go on tour in the future and play other teams from across the world.’

Gene hopes to stay with the Bath training squad and eventually gain a place on the Bath A team, following in the footsteps of Rugby legends such as Johnathan Joseph, Anthony Watson and Kyle Eastmond.
