On Monday 12 October, four Mendip Studio School students, along with their Lead Curriculum Teacher, Miss Barker, travelled to Buckingham Palace to represent the new school at the Studio Schools Trust Conference.
The conference took place inside the lavishly decorated Palace Ballroom and students were welcomed by His Royal Highness, The Duke of York, who is Patron of the Studio Schools Trust. The Prince welcomed everyone to the conference and spoke about the importance of Studio Schools and how in our 21st century world, to be a global competitor in the tough and demanding workplace, we needed innovation, creativity, invention and collaboration.
In addition to meeting Prince Andrew, students also enjoyed a presentation from ex-England Football Captain, Sol Campbell and had the opportunity to ask him questions about his life and career.
The Mendip Studio School students were also able to meet other studio school students from around the UK, some of whom shared their successes and vision for the future.
Finally, the Duke closed the Conference with a reminder that despite the fact that the Studio School students were being given some fantastic opportunities, it was up to them to chase them, build on them, achieve their potential and beyond, work hard even when it’s hard and reap the benefits as they progress.
Miss Barker said “it was a wonderful experience and the students were excited and inspired by the some of the projects showcased by other, more established, studio schools. Our students are determined to return to the Palace to share some of their future projects in the future”
The students agreed that it had been an inspirational day and one that they would not forget!
