A Step Closer To Olympic Glory

Writhlington Year 8 student, Zoe Simmons, travelled to Manchester last week to compete at the 2015 Sainsbury’s School Games where the country’s top elite gymnasts came together to battle it out against teams representing England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Zoe, who was selected to join the the GB Junior European Squad last year; a stepping stone towards Olympic Entry, competed with the Welsh squad with fellow team mates Maisie Methuen, Latalia Bevan, Jolie Ruckley and Emily Thomas.

The team performed an outstanding set, scoring 205.100, securing them a 5.4 lead and a Gold place with England following with 199.700 in Silver, Scotland with 193.150 in Bronze and Northern Ireland with 91.700 in 4th.

The all-around title also went to Wales with Latalia Bevan clinching Gold with 52.100 ahead of England’s Megan Parker in silver with 51.700 and Welsh teammate Maisie Methuen in bronze with 51.400. 

With training in full swing Zoe now begins training for the Northern European Gymnastic Competition at the end of September held in Ireland.
