School Uniform Update

Further to our previous correspondence regarding changes to school uniform from September 2016, I write to confirm that Year 7 students starting school in September 2016 will wear the new uniform and the remaining year groups (8-11) will only need to purchase the newly designed uniform when they grow out of their current uniform. We will phase it in gradually rather than introducing the change by September 2017.

School Uniform and PE Kit will be available from the Uniform Shop at Writhlington Sports Centre from Monday 25 July.

  • School Blazers – Plain Navy Blue with school badge
  • Skirts – Checked fabric available in pleated or straight styles
  • School Jumpers – Navy blue with green stripe (optional)
  • School Ties – Navy with green stripe
  • PE kit will stay the same

Girls can wear a shirt and tie if they wish.

Uniform that can be bought from a High Street store:

  • Trousers (Boys and Girls) – Charcoal Grey
  • Blouses (Girls) – White revere collar (short, three quarter or long sleeved)
  • Shirts (Boys) – White (short or long sleeved)
  • Tights – Navy
  • Shoes – Black – no trainers/fashion shoes

Current Uniform

Please ensure that your child is wearing the correct uniform to school. These notes outline what is acceptable. Please contact the school if you need further clarification.

  • School Blazers – Compulsory
  • School Ties – Compulsory for boys
  • School Jumpers –  Optional.  These can be purchased from Norton Sports and Camping in Midsomer Norton -Tel 01761 418972
  • The PE kit is available to purchase directly or online from Notice Me Logos, Shepton Mallet (click here) Tel 01749 938002
  • Trousers – Black – must be plain school trousers.  They should not be fashion trousers; tight fitting trousers, decorative buttons, zips, logos, etc. are not allowed
  • Skirts – From Sept 2015 Year 7 will wear pleated black skirts; Years 8-11 will wear black skirts
  • Shirts & Blouses  – Light blue. Long or short sleeved for boys; open necked with cropped sleeves for girls

Trousers, skirts and shirts can be purchased at Norton Sports and Camping, Midsomer Norton or alternatively, they can be purchased from a number of high street stores.

  • Jewellery & Make Up  – Should be discreet and kept to a minimum. No make up is allowed to be worn in Years 7 & 8. It may be worn discreetly in Years 9, 10 & 11
  • Piercings – Small, plain ear studs and one small, plain nose stud are allowed. NO OTHER FACIAL PIERCINGS ARE ALLOWED. Piercings need to be removed or covered during PE/Games for Health & Safety reasons
  • Shoes  Should be plain and black.  No trainers, daps, or canvas shoes.  Please make sure your child is wearing sensible shoes
  • Hairstyles – We do not allow extreme hairstyles e.g. shaved head; hair colour should be natural. Students will be isolated or sent home if a hairstyle is  inappropriate. Headwear should only be worn for religious purposes.

PE Uniform

Students will be required to wear the following for PE and Games lessons, All PE Uniform MUST be clearly labelled:

Girls PE Uniform:

  • Short sleeved Navy/turquoise fitted climacal Victory PE shirt with school logo
  • Navy/turquoise skirt with cotton short or Navy/turquoise sports shorts with breathable inner.
  • Suitable trainers
  • Navy and turquoise socks
  • Navy hoodie with school logo
  • For all PE and games activities, girls with long hair should keep their hair off the face using ribbons, elastic bands or hair clips.
  • Shin pads must be worn for all football and hockey lessons.
  • Woollen gloves (not mittens), may be worn for hockey during the winter. It is strongly recommended that students wear a gum shield for hockey and rugby.

Boys PE Uniform:

  • Short sleeved Navy/turquoise Challenge cotton Rugby shirt with school logo
  • Optional Navy/turquoise climacal Challenge PE polo-shirt for summer terms
  • Navy/turquoise blue shorts with breathable inner
  • Suitable trainers
  • Navy and turquoise socks
  • Navy hoodie with school logo
  • Metal studded boots for grass / only trainers / moulded studs for Astro
  • Shin pads must be worn for all football and hockey lessons. It is strongly recommended that students wear a gum shield for hockey and rugby.

General information

Students will only be excused from PE or games lessons on receipt of a signed note from his/her parent/carer or a medical note. Students who are excused PE or games are expected to bring and change into the correct uniform. They will take a full part in the lesson acting as a coach, leader or official.
