Creative Arts

Creative Arts Learning Zone

Based in the Creative Arts Learning Zone, every student in Years 7-9 studies Art, Music and Drama.

Our unrivalled facilities include a 400-seat theatre which houses shows, plays and concerts. Students are able to choose Performing Arts in Year 10-13, learning the skills of production, direction and technical support as well as acting. In addition to numerous smaller productions, a full scale musical production is staged every year, with every aspect from the music and acting through to the stage management and ticket sales undertaken by students. Students from Year 9 have the opportunity to follow a Dance course in our dedicated Dance Studio.

Music is a long-standing strength at Writhlington. Every child is offered free instrument tuition in their first year, and a large proportion continue to learn an instrument. In addition to three bands, Writhlington has large girls and boys choirs, and there is an annual tour in Europe each summer as well as regular concert performances. The music suite include two large rehearsal and teaching spaces in addition to a state-of-the art music recording studio.

Art occupies four specialist rooms on the first floor, and from Year 10 offers students the option to specialise in either Art or Art & Design. Student work is exhibited in prestigious venues in Bath and Bristol.

Media is a popular course for students in Year 10 to Year 13, with a considerable emphasis on practical assignments such as web design and film making, using the Writhlington television recording studio. All work in the Creative Arts is undertaken using industry standard Mac computers.
