Combined Cadet Force
The Combined Cadet Force (CCF) is a voluntary youth organisation in schools and colleges sponsored and administered by the Ministry of Defence (MOD). CCF units, known as contingents, may comprise of up three Service sections, Army, Royal Air Force (RAF) and Royal Navy (RN).
The broad function of the CCF is to provide a disciplined organisation in a school so that pupils may develop the powers of leadership by means of training to promote the qualities of responsibility, self-reliance, resourcefulness, endurance and perseverance. The self-confidence and self-discipline required in Service life are equally vital in the civilian life of the nation today. The specific function of the service training in the CCF is:
- To promote the opportunity for young people to exercise responsibility and leadership, and to learn from the services how they can best be developed.
- To impart a basic knowledge and understanding of the role of the Armed forces.
- To encourage those who have an interest in the Services to join the Regular of Reserve Forces.
Writhlington CCF Winter Exercise 2012
Writhlington School CCF was established in 2003 and currently has 100 cadets ranging from academic year 9 to post 16. Our contingent is voluntary so all cadets can chose the variety of training they are involved in from Drill and Turnout to various Adventure Training activity's. All cadets work towards Army Proficiency Training (APC) certificates on a weekly basis.
